Nature is everything around us that is not made by people. It includes the sky, the land, the water, the trees, the flowers, and all the animals. Nature is very big, very beautiful, and very important for our lives. Every day, nature gives us clean air to breathe, water to drink, and food to eat.
In this text, we will talk about different parts of nature, the four seasons, and why we must protect our world.
The Sky and the Weather
When you look up, you see the sky. During the day, the sun is in the sky. The sun gives us light and warm heat. Sunlight helps plants grow green and strong. Without the sun, our planet would be very dark and cold, and nothing could live here.
Sometimes, there are white or grey clouds in the sky. Clouds bring rain. Rain is very important because flowers, trees, and crops need water to live. Rivers and lakes also fill up when it rains. When the sun shines while it is raining, you can often see a rainbow in the sky. A rainbow has many beautiful colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
At night, the sun goes down, and the sky becomes dark. Then, we can see the moon and millions of small, shining stars. Nighttime is quiet, and it is time for people and many animals to rest and sleep.
Forests, Mountains, and Rivers
Earth has many different types of landscapes. Landscapes are the different shapes of the land.
Forests and Trees
A forest is a large area with many trees growing close together. Trees are amazing living things. They take in dirty air and make clean oxygen for us to breathe. Birds build their nests in the branches of trees. Small animals like squirrels, rabbits, and insects live in the forest. When you walk in a forest, you can hear the wind in the leaves and birds singing sweet songs.
Mountains
Mountains are very high places on Earth. Some mountains are so tall that they have cold snow on top of them all year. Climbing a mountain can be hard work, but when you reach the top, the view is wonderful. You can see far away across the land.
Rivers and Oceans
Water covers most of our planet. Rivers flow down from the mountains, moving across the land until they reach the ocean. Ocean water is salty and very deep. Millions of ocean animals live under the water, such as big whales, playful dolphins, and small colorful fish. Oceans and seas make our world bright and blue.
Animals and Plants
Animals and plants are a big part of nature. They live in harmony with each other.
Plants and Flowers
Plants come in many shapes and sizes. Some are tiny green grass blades, while others are huge, tall trees. In spring and summer, many plants grow bright, sweet-smelling flowers. Flowers attract small bees and butterflies. Bees visit flowers to drink nectar and help other flowers grow. This process helps fruits like apples, oranges, and strawberries grow on plants so we can eat them.
Wild Animals
Animals live in many different habitats, or home places.
- In the forest: Bears, deer, foxes, and owls make their homes.
- In the jungle: Monkeys jump between trees, and bright parrots fly in the air.
- In the cold ice lands: Polar bears and penguins live where it is very cold and white.
- In the hot desert: Camels can walk for many days without drinking water.
Every animal has a special job in nature. Big animals eat smaller animals or plants, and small animals help the soil and plants grow. This balance is called the circle of life.
The Four Seasons
In many places around the world, the weather changes throughout the year. We call these changes the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn (Fall), and Winter.
Spring
Spring is the time when nature wakes up after a long, cold winter. The weather becomes warm. Green grass grows on the ground, and young leaves appear on the tree branches. Colorful flowers begin to open. Animals have baby animals in the spring. It is a happy and fresh season full of new life.
Summer
Summer is the hottest season of the year. The days are long and sunny, and the nights are short. Trees are full of green leaves, and fruits ripen in the gardens. Many people like to go to the beach or swim in lakes during summer. Animals spend their time finding food and enjoying the warm weather.
Autumn (Fall)
In autumn, the weather starts to get cool again. The green leaves on trees change their colors to bright yellow, orange, red, and brown. Then, the leaves fall off the trees onto the ground. Farmers pick fruits and vegetables from their fields. Birds begin to fly away to warmer southern countries before the cold comes.
Winter
Winter is the coldest season. The days become short, and the nights are long. In many cold places, it snows. White snow covers the houses, trees, and ground like a soft, fluffy blanket. Some animals, like bears, go to sleep for the whole winter. This long sleep is called hibernation. Children love to play in the snow, build snowmen, and go ice-skating.
Why We Must Protect Nature
Nature is wonderful, but it needs our help today. Sometimes, human activities hurt the planet. People cut down too many forest trees, build too many factories, and throw trash into the rivers and oceans. When the water, air, and land get dirty, we call it pollution. Pollution is dangerous for plants, animals, and human health.
We can all do small, simple things every day to take care of nature:
- Recycle trash: Put paper, plastic, and glass into special recycling bins.
- Save water: Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth.
- Save energy: Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
- Plant trees and flowers: Help nature grow in your garden or school yard.
- Keep places clean: Never drop trash on the ground when you walk in a park or forest.
